Video shows woman looking down while driving
BALDWINSVILLE -- The Baldwinsville School District has released school bus surveillance video that shows a driver distracted as she's taking children to school, and now the district superintendent says the investigation into the incident is closed.
Superintendent Jeanne Dangle says that because it's a personnel matter, she will not go into detail. She did confirm to us on Monday afternoon that the driver is still 'currently employed' but is 'not driving.'
She added that B'ville schools will 'implement appropriate action' as a result of this incident.
Parents at Palmer Elementary School complained earlier this month when children told them the driver was messaging while driving. The case was turned over to Baldwinsville Police, who determined there was no criminal action, and the school district performed its own investigation after that.
The video shown to CNY Central (and included with this story) clearly shows the driver looking down several times while the bus is moving. You cannot see her hands from the vantage point of the camera, however the woman's supervisor is quoted as saying the driver was distracted.
Several parents we spoke with on Monday were shocked, and not happy about the incident - or about the fact that the driver is still employed. 'The appropriate action,' one woman told us, would be to fire her.
