TYRE, SENECA CO. -- Seneca County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a one-car crash, where several teens took off, leaving their friend behind.
It happened March 15th on Gravel Road between Lamb and West Tyre Roads in the Town of Tyre.
Seneca County Sheriff's deputies say Dylan Verkey, 17, of 18 Ridge Street in Seneca Falls, was driving at a high rate of speed when he swerved to avoid hitting another car.
Deputies say Verkey lost control, slamming into a utility pole before smashing into the ditch line. He was treated at the scene for minor abrasions from the airbag deploying.
Investigators say three passengers in Verkey's car took off after the crash. Deputies say Sean Gustafson, 17, of 2548 Lower Lake Road, came back to the scene with his parent. He had suffered a minor injury to his nose. Deputies say Zackary Rattray, 17, of 16 Washington Street, was found at a local school. He was taken to Geneva General Hospital for neck pain. Deputies say Christopher McGill, 18, of 6 Elwell Street, was picked up at school by a parent and suffered no injuries.
Verkey was issued traffic tickets for reckless driving and failing to keep right. He is scheduled to appear in the Town of Tyre court on March 30th.
