UTICA, ONEIDA CO. -- A Utica man is under arrest and a little worse for the wear after allegedly attempting to steal from another man’s home.
According to Utica Police, around 9:36 Monday night officers were called to Seward Avenue for a report of a burglary in progress. When police arrived they spoke with the homeowner, who told them that he heard strange noises and found an unknown man standing in his house. The homeowner, whose name was not released, says he yelled at the suspect and punched him while chasing him out of the house.
Police eventually located the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Frederick Robertson of Butler Avenue in Utica, on Roosevelt Drive. The officers say they noticed Robertson was bleeding from the bridge of his nose, which they learned was caused by the homeowner’s fist.
Police also say they discovered that a basement window at the home was broken, and the glove compartment of a vehicle belonging to the homeowner had been rummaged through.
Robertson has been charged with felony second degree burglary (of a dwelling) and misdemeanor possession of burglar tools. Police say Robertson was found to be in possession of a screwdriver and a flashlight at the time of the alleged incident.
