IRA, CAYUGA CO. -- A Cayuga County family needs a new place to live after fire destroyed their home Monday morning.
Flames first sparked shortly after 9:30 on Humphrey Road in Ira. Firefighters say the family was at home, but everyone made it out safely.
The fire started in the chimney, then spread to the attic and the roof. The chief says firefighters had a tough time, partly because there were several additions on the house. Extra companies were called in to help because not all volunteer firefighters can make it to daytime fires if they work other jobs.
