Open Houses planned next Saturday & Sunday
Volunteer fire departments --always looking for new recruits--will do a concentrated, statewide new member drive next weekend. 'Recruit New York' will see open houses at every volunteer fire company, so that area residents can see what it takes to be a volunteer.
Gordon Kotars, who speaks for the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY), says there is also an effort to teach fire service leaders how to expand and improve recruitment efforts. http://recruitNY.org/ offers help materials to departments.
The Open Houses are Saturday and Sunday (April 9 & 10), and will include tours of firehouses and demonstrations of equipment and gear. Check with your local fire department for specifics.
