UTICA -- An early morning crash ends with the arrest of a Sauquoit man.
It happened around 2:35 a.m. Tuesday.
Utica police say 32-year-old Michael Boyer, of Butler Road, is facing a number of charges including drunk driving.
They were on an unrelated traffic stop near Memorial Parkway and Seymour Avenue when they saw Boyer's car coming towards them with a flat tire along with sparks and smoke coming from the rim and heavy front-end damage. They say officers had to swerve at the last minute to avoid getting hit by Boyer's car.
Police later stopped him at Madison and the Parkway. Investigators say they later determined Boyer had been in a one car crash at Memorial Parkway and Holland Avenue where he slammed into a light pole head-on, severing it, then back into a bus stop and stop signs and took off.
Police say Boyer told them he didn't know anything about the crash.
Boyer is now charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more, failed to keep right, moved from lane unsafely, unsafe backing, no seat belt and operating a motor vehicle while drinking alcohol on a highway.
