Our Biggest Loser contestant dropped another 4 pounds during his weekly weigh-in on Today in Central New York Wednesday morning. It was good news for 41-year-old Darryl Sanford who didn't lose any weight last week, although he was feeling under the weather.
After overcoming his sickness, Darryl is now back on track and approaching his goal of being 100 pounds slimmer. Darryl and his trainer Barb St. Pierre from Trillium Fitness appeared on NBC 3 to talk about the importance of tracking your daily caloric intake and what you burn.
Certainly, working out is a key part of losing weight, but there is more to shedding pounds than just exercise. St. Pierre shared the importance of people tracking the calories they consume and the amount they burn.
One way to track how much you eat is through a personal journal or diary. In the journal, you should write down your exercise regiment along with what you ate.
There are also high-tech ways to keep your calories in check. Some people like Darryl use the Bodybugg, which uses special sensors to calculate how many calories you burn throughout the day. It also comes with an online program to help you manage your workouts and nutritional habits so you can accurately determine how many calories you are consuming and burning each day.
When you're trying to lose weight, it's important to constantly track your habits so at the end of each week you can evaluate how you've been doing. Look closely at whether you're eating too much or too little and for what reasons; whether it is emotional or simply a habit of yours. Once you see trends, work to change them as well as build new, healthier habits both in exercise and nutrition.
Darryl is certainly well on his way to a healthier life. Leave him words on encouragement below.
