NORTH SYRACUSE -- Onondaga County Sheriff's say a North Syracuse woman is facing charges of robbing a Kinney Drug store in the Town of Clay. A school had to be put on lockdown because of the incident.
Sheriff's arrested Amy J. Sullivan, 31, of 417 Fergerson Avenue in North Syracuse on a charge of 3rd degree robbery, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree and driving while intoxicated.
Investigators say Sullivan entered the Kinney Drug Store at 5221 West Taft Road shortly before 3:30pm. Sheriff's say she wore a black ski mask and demanded drugs from the store's pharmacist. Witnesses report Sullivan motioned as if she had a handgun beneath her sweatshirt, and demanded that the pharmacist give her hydrocodone.
Sullivan fled from the store after being handed several hydrocodone tablets and drove off.
Sheriff's Deputies, the North Syracuse Police Department, and the New York State Police searched the area and within minutes spotted Sullivan driving near the intersection of Ivon Drive and Ford Drive. As they tried to stop her, she continued driving through the neighborhood. That's when Sheriff's say she struck a marked New York State Police car near the intersection of Helen Street and Fergerson Avenue before pulling into her driveway. She was then arrested.
Detectives later say she was not in possession of a handgun and that the items taken from the store were recovered.
As the incident unfolded, the North Syracuse Junior High School was locked down as a precaution.
Sullivan will be arraigned this evening at a court yet to be determined.
