DeWitt police are investigating an overnight robbery and assault.

It happened around 1:15 a.m. in the parking lot of the Springfield Garden Apartment complex at 26 Caton Drive.

Police say 23-year-old Augustus Allen was dropped off in the back parking lot of the complex. When he got out of the car, police say, Allen was jumped by 8 to 10 black men who approached him from behind a nearby parked car. Police say the men knocked Allen to the ground, assaulting him and stealing some of his personal belongings.

Allen was able to make it to a nearby apartment where the tenant called 911.

Allen was taken to SUNY Upstate Hospital where he is being treated for a broken nose, numerous contusions, lacerations and abrasions.
