ALBANY (AP) -- A 31-year-old man from the Mohawk reservation that straddles the Canadian border has pleaded guilty to federal charges in a drug robbery and killing authorities say involved several men from the reservation.
Federal prosecutors say Derek Cook of Snye, Quebec, faces up to life in prison after admitting Friday to charges of conspiracy and abetting gun possession in a fatal violent crime. Two other men have already pleaded guilty to the same counts and await sentencing.
Four more still face charges, two in U.S. custody and two held in Canada awaiting extradition.
Cook acknowledged planning with others to rob Daniel Simonds at his home in rural St. Lawrence County early on May 13, 2008, of cash and marijuana. In a struggle, Simonds was shot.
