SYRACUSE -- Freshman Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle has the privilege of bringing two congressional subcommittee hearings to her home 25th Congressional District today.

The first hearing was held this morning at the Irondequoit Town Hall.  The second hearing is currently underway at Syracuse’s South Side Innovation Center on South Salina Street, next door to Dunk and Bright furniture. Nine speakers are on the schedule in Syracuse, representing the sectors of business, agriculture and local government.

Rep. Buerkle is the Vice Chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform’s Subcommittee on Regulatory Affairs, Stimulus Oversight and Government Spending.  Despite the committee’s long title the purpose of the hearing is fairly simple.  Buerkle said the congressional members are looking for ways to simplify government, “that really is what we’re talking about, getting government out of the way to get the economy on track.”

Witnesses scheduled to appear before the panel in Syracuse are: Randy Wolken, President of the Manufacturing Association of CNY, Rob Simpson, President of Centerstate CEO and Jud Gostin, CEO of Sensis. Also, Andrew Reeves of Reeves Farms, Nancy Hourigan of Hourigan Dairy Farms and Tom DeMaree of DeMaree Fruit Farm.  Also, Travis Glazier, Onondaga County Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, Tom Squires, Cayuga County Administrator and Orrin MacMurray of CNS Consulting Engineers.

You can follow the details of the hearing several ways.  Our CNY Central TV channel will carry the hearings live on Time Warner Channel 864 and over the air on 3.3.  CNYcentral.com will also stream the hearings live, and Matt Mulcahy will be sending live tweets on Twitter.com/CNYcentral.
