TOWN OF LENOX, MADISON CO. -- Madison County Sheriff's deputies are investigating an accident that occurred in the Town of Lenox Wednesday night.
Deputies say a 68-year-old Charles Dunn of Bridgeport was driving a 2003 Ford pickup westbound on Route 31 just after 5:00 p.m. when his vehicle went off the road and struck a tree head-on near Burlingame Road. The truck sustained heavy damage, as can be seen in the attached photo.
Dunn had to be extricated from the truck by the Canastota Fire Department Rescue Squad. His passenger, 72-year-old Ira Dunn, escaped the vehicle on his own.
Both the driver and passenger side airbags deployed, and deputies say both occupants were wearing seatbelts. Both people were transported to Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse by Greater Lenox Ambulance Service and Vineall Ambulance. The driver is in serious condition and the passenger in stable condition.
Deputies say their investigation is still ongoing, and no tickets have been issued at this time.
