SCRIBA, OSWEGO CO. -- A New Haven woman is accused of leaving a 5-year-old in the street alone, saying it was too cold to chase after him.

68-year-old Caroline Showers, of County Route 1 Bldg. 599, was arrested around 4:09 p.m. Thursday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Oswego County Sheriff's deputies say her arrest stems from a call to 911 about a child playing in the roadway of CR 1 in the Town of Scriba. The little boy was apparently seen running out of the house and heading west up the hill.

Deputies say Showers thought it was too cold to run after the child.

Oswego County investigators say the child is related to Showers, but they are not releasing the exact relationship in order to protect the boy's identity. We do know the two live together.

Showers was released on an appearance ticketed. She is scheduled to appear in the Town of New Haven Court on May 5th.
