After a soaking 0.84” of rainfall Saturday morning, a peak Easter egg hunt time period, everyone is hoping Peter Cottontail brings some better weather Sunday morning. This rain pushed our April number to near 5” and I’m not talking snow, that’s rain. It’s more than 2” above average to date for the month.

I awoke this morning with grandiose plans to “hop” into my car and head down to my weekly Mountain Goat Run training session in Syracuse, only to find puddles growing by the minute. There was no bright side to the weather early in the day. Rain, breezy, raw conditions with a wind chill. Most egg hunts were moved indoors or cancelled all together like my run. That’s alright, the sunshine and spring warmth that finished the day more than made up for the slow start weather wise.

So what about Sunday morning’s egg hunts and can you break out the Easter bonnets without getting them wet? I’ve got to tell you it’s a tough forecast for Sunday. But that’s why I get paid the big bucks right? So here it goes. The early morning will be dry with mostly cloudy skies. Winds will be light with temperatures actually a few degrees above normal, a good start to the holiday. It gets more interesting mid morning and especially midday as a wave of low pressure slides south of our area on a stalled out cold front. This system will definitely provide us with some clouds, and for some of us rain showers. Spotty light rain showers and sprinkles will likely brush areas just south of Syracuse with more substantial rain showers for the southern parts of Central New York, those being southern Tompkins and southern Chenango Counties. Skies should clear up some towards the finish of the day with temperatures topping out close to seasonal levels in the upper 50s.

It would be wonderful to see a sunny and warm start to Easter Sunday but this is Central New York and quite frankly we have had some bad luck with our weather lately. So I’ll take what weather the Easter Bunny brings in the morning, as long as there is some yummy chocolate sprinkled in too!
