FORT DRUM -- Hearts are heavy among the Fort Drum community.
The Department of Defense has just announced that a Fort Drum soldier was killed in Afghanistan.
Chief Warrant Officer Terry Varnadore II, 29, died April 23rd in Kapisa province, Afghanistan from wounds suffered when his helicopter went down. Defense Dept. officials are still unsure what caused the chopper to crash, and the accident remains under investigation.
Varnadore was assigned to the 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum.
He was originally from Hendersonville, North Carolina.
