OSWEGO --

Oswego Police have confirmed that a woman sought for allegedly forcing her children to live in squalid conditions has been arrested and charged with child endangerment.

A police spokesperson says Christina Haskins was arrested Monday afternoon and given an appearance ticket. Haskins is charged with three counts of child endangerment. Her husband, Anthony Distefano, was also charged with child endangerment last week.

On April 1st, CNY Central’s Jim Kenyon exposed the living conditions inside an apartment where the couple lived with their five children on East 7th Street. After Oswego Police responded to a domestic violence complaint earlier this month, they found the apartment was unsafe for children because of rotting garbage, insects and other filthy conditions.

Child Protective Services workers have placed the children with relatives.

Both Haskins and Distefano are due in court on May 12th.

Relatives of Haskins and Distefano spoke out about the situation to CNY Central last week. Click here to read that story.
