BUTLER, WAYNE CO. (AP) -- Authorities are investigating whether a pack of dogs or wild coyotes killed a central New York family's two pet miniature horses.
Barbara Jean Squires tells WHAM-TV in Rochester that she found the horses dead on Saturday in a fenced-in pasture in the rural Wayne County town of Butler, 33 miles northwest of Syracuse.
Squires and her family suspect a neighbor's four large dogs could have killed the horses. They say the dogs have been seen in recent weeks roaming the area in a pack. Officials also are looking into whether coyotes are to blame.
Squires says the two 300-pound horses were a gift given to her grandchildren 12 years ago.
The town's animal control officer and the county sheriff's office are investigating. They aren't commenting on specifics of the case.
