NORWICH -- We just received this advisory from Chenango County Emergency Management: The Canasawacta Creek in Norwich and Plymouth is in imminent danger of going over it's banks.
The Canasawacta Creek from Plymouth to Norwich is rising rapidly and likely to begin flooding at any time. If you live along the creek, take immediate emergency protective measures. Move to higher ground and do not travel through areas of standing water. If you have a life threatening emergency, call 9-1-1.
Meanwhile aTravel Advisory issues for Chenango County until further notice. Roads are open but use extreme caution.
Chairman Richard B. Decker of the Chenango County Board of Supervisors has issued a State of Emergency for Chenango County. A TRAVEL ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR ALL ROADS IN CHENANGO COUNTY, as a result of the thunderstorms from overnight. THE ROADWAYS AND COUNTY OFFICE BUILDING ARE STILL OPEN, BUT CAUTION IS ENCOURAGED WHILE TRAVELING. According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, another major storm front is expected in impact this County later this morning.
Motorists are urged to travel with extreme caution as they travel throughout the day. There are many local, County and State roads are impacted by flowing water and debris. Some roadways may be closed locally or even down to one lane in flooded areas.
Motorists are reminded to not drive through standing water, handle down trees or power lines.
