SYRACUSE -- A 14-year-old boy is safe tonight after he got stuck in the mud behind the Westcott Reservoir on Salisbury Road.
The initial call for help came in around 10:15. Police and fire crews tell us the boy was on a hill near the reservoir when the ground slid out beneath him. They say he then had mud up to his thighs and couldn't get out on his own. Fire crews laid ladders down on the hill to help them climb up, and then stood on boards so they didn't sink into the mud too. They used shovels to help dig the mud out around the boy, before pulling him out to safety.
It took crews at least 15 minutes to help get him out.
We're told the boy appears to be okay, but was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
