SYRACUSE -- Rescue teams are still trying to help people affected by tornadoes that hit the south this week. But this effort goes beyond state borders -- one church in Central New York says it's stepping up to help tornado survivors, too.
Park Central Presbyterian Church is collecting health kits to ship to areas hit by tornadoes. The kits include hand towels, washcloths, combs, nail clippers, soap, toothbrushes, and band-aids. Organizers say although monetary donations are welcomed, giving items for the kits goes a long way.
"Sending something tangible makes you feel like you've touched another person's life," says Sarah McTyre, a member of Park Central Presbyterian. "Because you can imagine somebody using that comb or using that bar of soap."
People can donate items until 3:00pm Sunday. The health kits will be shipped to the south on Monday.
