SYRACUSE -- The man who was behind the wheel in the Megabus disaster on the Onondaga Lake Parkway last year will face criminal charges.
Prosecutors have summoned 59-year-old John Tomaszewski back to Central New York from New Jersey to answer charges in a sealed indictment. Prosecutors won't reveal the specific charges until he is arraigned on this morning. Onondaga County Court Judge Anthony Aloi will preside over the case.
Last September, the double decker bus that Tomaszewski was driving slammed into the low railroad bridge on the Parkway in the early hours of September 11, 2010, killing four people and injuring dozens more.
Somehow, the driver missed several warnings about the height of the bridge. Investigators claim Tomaszewski was looking at his GPS device and was distracted when he drove into the bridge.
