SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse Police Department honored fallen officers Monday morning.
A special wreath laying ceremony was held at the Syracuse Police Memorial. It remembers officers from Syracuse and throughout law enforcement.
Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler says today's ceremony is a good opportunity to remember the difficult situations that police officers face every day. He says, "What goes through my mind is how challenging the job can be and the risk these men and women I'm in charge of take every day without hesitation. This is really a sobering experience."
The ceremony comes just a few days after local officers were involved in a deadly confrontation. A military veteran with mental problems aimed a pellet gun that looked like a revolver at Syracuse Police officers and Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies at the Regional Transportation Center Thursday evening. Syracuse Police Sergeant Anthony Rossillo, 46, and Deputies Michael Hoosock, 24, and Adam Quku, 27, fired on Benjamin Campione, killing him. All the officers are on paid administrative leave.
