ALBANY (AP) -- In a teary good-bye in the Legislature, New York's Senate confirmed longtime Assemblywoman RoAnn Destito as commissioner of the massive state Office of General Services.
The Oneida County Democrat was Gov. Andrew Cuomo's choice to run the agency that runs the state's buildings and many other assets. Cuomo announced her Senate confirmation Tuesday.
She will be paid $136,000 a year.
Cuomo says Destito will help modernize the state's operations and restore performance to government.
Destito says she hopes to make government put people first again.
Before her 19 years in the Assembly representing the Utica area, Destito spent 10 years as a staff member in the Assembly.
For Cuomo, the appointment gives him another popular ally in the predominantly Republican upstate region.
