Onondaga Community College isn't breaking ground, but breaking "air," so to speak, on a new academic building.

The new building will connect Ferrante Hall and the Gordon Student Center, spanning over the hallmark natural gorge that runs through campus, only touching two points on the ground.

The new building will be more than a connector. It will house eight new "smart" classrooms and the College's music program. The school says the additional space will help accommodate more students. OCC has seen a 65 percent increase in student enrollment over the last decade.

The music program's current space in the student center will be renovated to house the College's advisement and counseling services.

The new academic building is slated to be complete in 2012.
