UTICA -- A Utica mother is accused of leaving her 2-year-old child wandering the streets unattended with a filthy diaper.

Utica police were called to a home along the 700 block of Lenox Avenue around 7:27 a.m. Sunday. The residents told police they saw the child walking up and down the street wearing only a tee shirt and a diaper with no shoes or socks. Police say the child's diaper was full of feces and legs were covered in excrement.

The child's mother, 28-year-old Kimberly Plantz, of Saratoga Street, told police she didn't know her child was missing. She was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Plantz is currently being held on $500 bail.

The child was taken to police headquarters and Child Protective Services were contacted. The child is currently in police custody.

Police say there was a prior incident regarding the same circumstances.
