Syracuse Police: Don't count on it

SYRACUSE -- Syracuse police say there will be more DWI checkpoints as we head into the warm weather.

The are done periodically. Captain Shannon Trice says some are announced, others are not to "keep people on their toes." Police are aware of apps that people can download that detect checkpoints but say if you drink and drive, you will be caught.

"We move around so quickly that it would be virtually impossible for them to avoid a checkpoint," Captain Trice says.

Captain Trice says the apps work in their favor because when a driver thinks police are in one spot, they are setting up somewhere else. He says their message has always been that they don't want people drinking and driving.
