State Police in Watertown have arrested a man for murdering a woman and seriously wounding her daughter shortly before midnight on Saturday.
Police say 20 year-old Mikel Odle of Alexandria Bay stabbed 51 year-old Mary Burkman to death in her Cape Vincent residence. Authorities say the woman's 21 year-old daughter also suffered stab wounds and is currently being treated for those injuries.
Police say Odle then took an 11 month-old infant, who he had with Burkman's daughter, out of the residence and fled in his car.
Burkman's daughter was able to call 911 after the attack and Odle was later arrested after a brief pursuit on State Route 12E in Chaumont.
The infant was airlifted to University Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Odle is expected to be charged Sunday for second degree murder and attempted murder.
