LIVERPOOL -- The man behind a deadly road rage crash along the Onondaga Lake Parkway learned his fate in Onondaga County Court this morning.
Matthew Stephan was sentenced to 2 1/2 to 7 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty in the case.
The crash last August left an innocent North Syracuse woman dead.
Stephan admits he was trying to pass another car driven by 21-year-old John D'Amore when he lost control, slamming head-on into a car driven by 40-year-old Mary Denny. She was killed instantly. Denny's passenger Kristen Kelly was hurt in the crash.
At this morning's sentencing, Stephan apologized to the victims' families. But Denny's husband says nothing he says can ever bring back his wife.
"I hope he learns why he's in prison. I don't condemn him for the rest of his life. Right now I have a hard time forgiving him for what he did," said Gerald Denny.
Stephan pleaded guilty to a slew of charges including 2nd degree manslaughter, assault, reckless driving, speeding and crossing a yellow line.
