AUBURN -- Anyone driving in downtown Auburn Thursday would have noticed a man holding a sign. He's a school bus driver on a mission.
Kenneth Isgar has been a school bus driver for more than 20 years. He's also an instructor. Now Isgar is using his own time to educate people about school bus safety. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Isgar is out holding up a sign which tells drivers to stop for school buses. He has a message for drivers: If you pass a school bus when the red light is flashing, that is breaking the law.
"I feel that we are not educating the public enough so that's why I'm out here, holding a sign trying to educate the public on stopping for school bus reds," Isgar said, "And it is very imperative that they do because it's not only a hefty fine, it also can be jail time and points on their license."
Isgar has been in Weedsport and is planning next to go to Elbridge. He says he sees drivers talking and texting illegally and running red flashing lights on busses.
"It's something I think a lot of people don't even realize that it's a problem," he said.
Isgar says he was motivated to do something a few years ago after a child when killed when a driver lost control alongside a school bus.

If you drive through Auburn, then maybe you've seen a man holding a sign on street corners.
He's Kenneth Isgar, a veteran bus driver and instructor.
Isgar tells CNY Central he stands on Genesee Street in Auburn twice a week holding a sign that encourages people to slow down and stop for school buses. He says being a bus driver, he knows the risks involved.
Some people we spoke with in Auburn say they like what Isgar is doing.
