OSWEGO -- An Oswego Alderman was on the wrong side of the law last weekend after police say he was caught driving drunk.

According to Oswego City Police, just before 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21 officers were called to the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving property damage. The crash happened near the area of West 1st Street and Cayuga Street and apparently involved two cars which were backing out of nearby parking spaces and crashed into each other.

Police say that when they responded they determined that William Sharkey, an Alderman for the city’s 6th Ward, was intoxicated based on field sobriety tests. Police say he blew a .13 on a breathalyzer test. The legal limit to drive in New York State is .08%.

Sharkey was ticketed for driving while intoxicated and unsafe backing. He is scheduled to return to court on June 9.
