CICERO -- One man is dead and a woman is recovering from serious injuries after a motorcycle crash Thursday afternoon.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office tells CNY Central that around 4:00 p.m. 41-year-old James M. McNish of Valley Drive in Syracuse was riding on Interstate 481 approaching the ramp to Interstate 81 in Cicero. Deputies say McNish lost control of his bike, and he and his passenger were thrown several feet into the highway median.

McNish and his passenger, Emma E. Walsh of Fayetteville, were taken to Upstate University Hospital for treatment. McNish later died from his injuries.

Police say Walsh sustained several broken bones but is expected to live.

The crash tied up traffic on I-481 while rescue crews worked at the scene.
