Memorial Day is the unofficial start of the summer, and it's one of the busiest weekends of the year for state parks.
At Green Lakes state park, the line at the entrance went all the way to the road.
Park Manager Jim Semar says during the holiday weekend, the entire campground was full. That includes 137 campsites and seven cabins. He says the rest of the summer's holiday weekends are already booked.
"People are staying closer to home and trying to do things for less," says Semar. "They come enjoy the local treasures that they have."
The beach was also busy on Memorial Day. With temperatures soaring into the 80s, the beach was filling up right after it opened at 11 a.m.
"It's fun," says Orlando Flagg, who was at the beach Monday afternoon. "I'm glad a lot of people are here right now to enjoy their Memorial Day."
Semar says the campgrounds are filling up fast for the rest of the weekends in the summer, so if you want to reserve a site, it's a good idea to do it quickly.
