SYRACUSE -- As the weather warms up, more people are heading to local ice cream shops to cool down, but they may notice prices are a little higher than last year.
The owners of Gannon's Isle ice cream shop on Valley Drive in Syracuse say they've had to increase their prices.
Eileen Gannon says the price of vanilla, nuts, and chocolate, including mix-ins like M&Ms and Snickers, just keep going up. She says there are shortages because of agriculture problems and political turmoil.
Gannon says some of her products have increased between 10 and 15 cents, but for the most part, she's trying not to pass those increases along to customers.
"We want to make it an affordable family thing," says Gannon. "Everybody likes to take their family out for ice cream. You might not be able to take your family on a big vacation or things like that but you should be able to take your family out for ice cream."
Gannon says some of the bigger ice cream chains, like ones in the grocery store, and keeping prices similar but are making up for it by packaging the ice cream in smaller cartons or decreasing portion sizes.
