SYRACUSE -- Police chiefs from every department in Onondaga County have unveiled a new tool in the fight against crime.
The Warrants website now features active warrants for every police department except the New York State Police. The expanded website now features 6,604 warrants for everything from felonies to traffic infractions. A new feature allows you to access "Most Wanted Felons" with information on how you can tip off police to a fugitive's whereabouts.
Baldwinsville Police Chief Michael Lefancheck told reporters, "No agency likes to have open warrants. It requires manpower and extra work to track these folks down. The more information we can get from the public, saves us legwork."
Syracuse Police Chief Frank Fowler suggested that everyone get on the website and even search their own name for outstanding warrants. He says it might save you a lot of trouble if you're stopped and taken into custody on a warrant you may not have been aware of.
