TOWN OF ONONDAGA -- A firefighter had to be taken to the hospital after fighting a fire in the Town of Onondaga Friday afternoon.
Onondaga County 911 reports the fire was at 5292 Abbe Drive, which is a dead end road off Fay Road just behind the Taunton Fire House. The initial report came in around 2:45 p.m. for a residential fire.
The fire started in the garage, and spread to the house. Firefighters say they were able to get the fire under control quickly, but the garage and living area are significantly damaged.
One person was in the home at the time, but got out without injury. One firefighter suffered heat exhaustion, but it is considered a minor case. That firefighter was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The Red Cross says its Disaster Action Team is also on the scene, and major damage to the single-family home has left two adults homeless. The Red Cross says they are providing immediate assistance.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
