GEDDES -- The New York State Fair this morning announced three more acts for Chevy Court. That's the stage for free concert acts. Here are the details from the State Fair's news release:
The New York State Fair announced three more of the 24 acts that will perform during this year's Chevy Court concert series, offering an array of shows that will appeal to a broad audience of Fairgoers. Two different acts will perform each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. All shows at Chevy Court are free with Fair admission.
Irish pop rockers The Script, R&B singer Charlie Wilson and "Jersey Boys" quartet The Midtown Men will perform in the 2011 Chevy Court concert series.
"From rockers to crooners, Chevy Court has it all," said Dan O'Hara, New York State Fair director. "These concerts really represent the diversity of talent that we are bringing to Chevy Court to make it the premier free concert venue in the country."
The Midtown Men, comprised of the original four stars from the Broadway hit "Jersey Boys," will perform Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m. The band pays tribute to the 1960s and performs songs from The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Temptations, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.
Charlie Wilson, an American R&B singer, songwriter and producer, and former lead singer for The Gap Band, will perform Friday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. He has been nominated for several Grammy awards including Best R&B Album and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. Among his hit songs are "There Goes My Baby," "Can't Live Without You" and "You Are."
The Script, an Irish rock band from Dublin, will perform Saturday, Sept. 3 at 8 p.m. The group's debut album "The Script" was released in the United States in 2009 and singles from that album topped the charts worldwide. The band's most recent album "Science & Faith" was released in 2011 in the United States and peaked at No. 3 on the U.S. charts. Popular songs include "The Man Who Can't Be Moved," "Breakeven" and "For the First Time," which is currently No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The announced performers are part of a revamped Chevy Court format introduced in 2009 that will bring 24 national acts to the Chevy Court stage instead of the traditional 12. These changes have set records for attendance at Chevy Court concerts and enhanced the overall entertainment options for Fairgoers. Last year's Chevy Court performance by Lady Antebellum was attended by an estimated 30,000 people.
Acts that were previously announced for Chevy Court include rock and pop band Allstar Weekend performing at 2 p.m. Aug. 28; jazz and swing band the Glenn Miller Orchestraperforming at 2 p.m. Aug. 29; American rock band REO Speedwagon performing at 8 p.m. Aug. 29; and Nickelodeon pop quartet Big Time Rush performing at 8 p.m. Sept. 1.
All shows at Chevy Court are free with Fair admission. More Chevy Court concerts will be announced soon. The 2011 Fair will run from Aug. 25 to Sept. 5.
