LAFAYETTE, ONONDAGA CO. -- A 51-year-old man was arrested twice in one day for driving drunk in Tully and Lafayette.
Around 12:17 p.m. Monday, State Police stopped John Simister, of Milford, Connecticut, on Interstate 81 in Tully for driving 80 miles per hour in a 65 zone. They say he had a blood alcohol level of .18 percent. That is more than twice the legal limit of .08 percent in New York State. Police say Simister was ticketed and released to a sober third party.
Later that night, around 10:20 p.m., police arrested Simister again. This time, an off duty Trooper spotted Simister allegedly drinking in a car at the Nice and Easy convenience store in Lafayette. Police say Simister drove away, and later refused to pull over when they tried to stop him.
Following a short chase, police say Simister pulled into a driveway on Newell Hill Road. Simister was arrested again with an alleged blood alcohol level of .17 percent.
Simister is now facing several charges, including driving while intoxicated, failure to comply, consuming alcohol in a motor vehicle, and failure to keep right. He was arraigned in LaFayette Town Court and remanded to the Onondaga County jail. He is scheduled to appear in Tully Town Court on June 28.
