SYRACUSE -- CNY Central cameras were on the scene Thursday as a man accused of stealing a woman's purse was arrested.
Syracuse Police say a 59-year-old woman was walking along the 500 block of Catherine Street just before 1:00 p.m. when she was knocked to the ground and had her wallet swiped. The woman had just left the Kleen Food Mart. A Good Samaritan followed the suspect and called 911 for help.
After a short foot chase near the intersection of Erie Boulevard and Townsend Street, investigators say they arrested 26-year-old Joseph Stanley III of Catherine Street. Stanley has been charged with second degree robbery and third degree assault. He was taken to the Onondaga County Justice Center pending arraignment in city court on Friday.
The alleged victim hurt her knee in the incident, but refused treatment. Her wallet was recovered and returned to her.
