Pickup hydroplaned into guardrail

CANASTOTA -- State Troopers have now identified the family involved in that rollover crash on the Thruway east of Syracuse on Saturday night.

34 year old Stephanie Willis, from Burgaw, North Carolina, was driving the pickup pulling a camper/trailer that hydroplaned and slammed into a guardrail and rolled over. 43-year-old Raymond Willis and a 15, 11, and 3-year-old were also in the vehicle. Troopers say they were taken to Upstate University Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. As of Monday afternoon, the children are reported to be in fair to good condition.

The driver, Stephanie Willis, is being ticketed for unsafe speed for conditions and having one child not restrained (not wearing a seatbelt). Troopers say the 3-year-old was in a child safety seat. One of the children who was ejected from the pickup was pinned up against a guardrail, but was not seriously injured.

Saturday night story (from reporter Chris McGrath, at the scene):

Four people are lucky to be alive tonight after the truck they were riding in crashed into a guardrail on the New York State Thruway.

State Troopers say a pick-up truck hauling a camper/trailer traveling westbound hydroplaned and crashed into a guardrail just before exit 34 around 8:30 pm.  Troopers say two children were ejected from the vehicle.  Another child and an adult were also in the vehicle.  All four have been taken to University Hospital and are expected to be okay, troopers say.

Traffic near the accident scene was moving slowly as troopers investigated the scene.  The road re-opened just after 11:30 pm, according to NYS Thruway officials.
