They must be in a detergent/bleach bottle
Diabetics and others who are regular needle users for themselve and for pets can dispose of them, safely, for free.
St. Joseph's Hospital does a twice-monthly collection of the hazardous waste. Laura Gray, RN, who oversees the program, says the 'sharps'--including razor blades as well as needles--need to be in a closed and clean laundry detergent or bleach plastic bottle. They're accepted at the Emergency Department main entrance on the first and third Saturdays of each month, 10am - 1pm. There's a free brochure available at the dropoff point for more information, or you can call 448-5173 for information and directions.
