WATERLOO -- The Wal-Mart in Waterloo was evacuated Monday due to an odor.

Seneca County 911 tells CNY Central that around 9:36 Monday morning a 'noxious odor' was reported at the Wal-Mart Supercenter on Dipronio Drive. Fire department crews and NYSEG responded to the scene, and around 10:30 a hazardous materials incident was confirmed by 911 dispatchers.

WROC-TV in Rochester reports that six ambulances were sent to the scene, and six patients were taken to area hospitals as a precaution. Their injuries are not believed to be serious.

According to witnesses in the area, there was a chemical smell in the garden department and the store was evacuated. Employees were checked out in the parking lot, but were told they could not leave.

The store remains evacuated, but officials say the building will be cleared soon.
