UTICA -- A former Syracuse University basketball player is busted in a prostitution sting.

25-year-old Joshua Wright is charged with patronizing a prostitute, a misdemeanor and loitering for the purpose of engaging in prostitution, a violation.

Utica police say he was trying to pay for sex from an undercover female officer posing as a prostitute.

The Special Operations Unit was targeting an area of Utica known for prostitution when Wright was arrested. Four other men were charged in the bust which happened Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

If convicted, Wright faces a maximum of one year in jail and/or a fine.

This isn't the first time Wright has run into trouble.

In 2008, he was charged with grand larceny, accused of stealing someone's credit card in the Town of Westmoreland.

Wright was a standout guard for Proctor High School and attended Syracuse University from 2004 to 2008, where he played for the Men's basketball team. He left the team and S.U. midway through his senior year for undisclosed reasons.
