OSWEGO -- A scholarship set up honors the memory of an Oswego native killed in a routine navy training mission.

Navy pilot Nathan Williams was killed during the exercise in April. Williams and  Lt. Matthew Ira Lowe died when the F/A-18F Super Hornet fighter jet they were on crashed in a field near a Central California air base. Williams was just 28-years-old.

Now, Oswego High School has established a scholarship in his memory. The award will be presented for the first time by Lt. Williams' parents at this year's commencement ceremony. It will be held at the SUNY Oswego Campus Center Ice Arena at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 25th.

Williams was a 2000 graduate of Oswego High School. He was a standout saxophonist who also excelled in hockey and lacrosse. He was described as a happy guy who brought a lot of enthusiasm to everything he did.

Williams' father is Gay Williams, the city attorney.
