MORAVIA, CAYUGA CO. -- A registered sex offender was arrested again Thursday, accused of inappropriate sexual contact with a teenage girl.
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 48-year-old Bruce D. Stebbins of Buddy Drive in Moravia around 10:00 p.m. Thursday on a charge of felony third degree criminal sexual act. Police say an investigation started that morning led them to accuse Stebbins of sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl. Police say during their investigation they also seized a white 1991 Ford conversion van and a cell phone that belong to Stebbins.
Deputies say Stebbins was convicted of raping a child less than 11-years-old in 1998 and served ten years in state prison. He is registered as a level three sex offender. Police say this alleged second victim is not related to Stebbins and is not his previous victim.
Police say their investigation continues and further charges are pending a review by the District Attorney’s office. Anyone with information regarding Stebbins having contact with any other children is urged to contact sheriff’s detectives at (315) 253-1610.
