SACKETS HARBOR, JEFFERSON CO. (AP) -- Authorities say a man in an excavating machine has been killed by a tree that fell on the heavy equipment while he was working.

Police in the eastern Lake Ontario village of Sackets Harbor say 47-year-old Kenneth Bush of Lacona was pinned inside the cab of the vehicle when a large tree fell on it late Monday morning as he worked at the Madison Barracks.

Rescue crews freed him from the wreckage but he died after being taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.
