SYRACUSE -- If you've ever thought about opening a business in downtown Syracuse, today is your chance to learn how to make it happen.
The Downtown Committee of Syracuse is holding a retail recruitment event at the Atrium Building from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The goal is to encourage retails from around the region to look at downtown Syracuse as their next business location.
The event includes several panel sessions to give prospective retailers information about downtown development, demographics, existing retailers' experience, available financing, incentives for businesses and resources for opening a business.
Prospective retailers will learn available retail space in downtown Syracuse and will get a chance to speak directly with leasing agents, lending institutions and resource providers.
"Downtown Syracuse has compelling selling points, including our central location, large employee and residential populations, proximity to the University Hill's student population and our status as a tourism and convention hub," said Merike Treier, Deputy Director of the Downtown Committee of Syracuse. "We want to show prospective retailers that downtown Syracuse is a growing and vibrant urban center that can support a variety of retailers."
The Downtown Committee partnered with the City of Syracuse Department of Neighborhood and Business Development, Greater Syracuse Business Development Corporation, Onondaga Small Business Development Center, United States Small Business Administration and the WISE Women's Business Center to organize the event.
