New charges filed against David McNamara, but not related to Katie Socci's death

AUBURN -- The man prosecutors consider the prime suspect in the murder of an Auburn woman is facing new charges, but none are related to the murder.

David McNamara appeared in Cayuga County Court today. He was charged with six new counts, all related to sales of narcotics between March 30th and June 14th of this year. The six charges could carry a total of 40 years in prison.

The charges are in addition to the drug and forgery charges filed Monday. Prosecutors say McNamara submitted a falsified prescription to a pharmacy last September to get hydrocodone.

McNamara pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He is now being held without bail.

Police call McNamara a person of interest in the death of 29-year-old Katie Socci. Her body was found in a shallow grave not far from her home last week. McNamara is her former boyfriend and the father of her child.
