SYRACUSE -- The steps of the First English Lutheran Church on James Street in Syracuse was filled with same-sex marriage supporters Saturday afternoon, just hours after Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a marriage equality bill into law.

It follows a historic vote in the Republican-controlled New York State Senate, which voted 33-29 to pass the bill late Friday night.  For many folks celebrating across the state and Central New York -- this day was long overdue.

"It's just a big huge feeling of love, if that's the best way to put it," said Jeff Bater of Baldwinsville.  "It's just great to feel that equality now."

Many people we spoke with today said they hope New York will pave the way for change across the country.  However, they say they know all too well that change takes time.  For now, they are just proud of New York State as they soak up this moment in history.
