Shots fired at home on Marcellus Street in Syracuse
SYRACUSE -- We're learning more about a home invasion on Syracuse's west side.
Police say three men wearing masks forced their way into a home at 307 Marcellus Street around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators say the men started beating 56-year-old Addilida Aguayo when her son came into the room when he heard what was going on.
Police say the men then attacked 26-year-old Jose Aguayo, beating him to the ground. While face down on the floor, police say Aguayo was shot in the back of the head. Police say the bullet grazed Aguayo behind his ear. Neither he nor his mother were seriously hurt.
Asked about a possible motive for the invasion, Chief Fowler told reporters, "I don't know how people like that think. I just lock them up."
Police need your help finding the three men behind this brutal attack. If you have any information, call Syracuse Police at (315) 442-5222.
The incident took place in a neighborhood that is part of the West Side Initiative, a development project aimed at attracting businesses and homeowners to a neighborhood once notorious for its poverty and crime.
Though he found the incident "discouraging" Demetrios Tsimis says it will not deter his plans to operate his outdoor Greek grill at the corner of Tioga and Fayette.
"It's unfortunate to hear something like that happen so close, but I can't let that instill fear in me or to inhibit what my vision, my aspirations and my goals are" said Tsimis.
