Traffic alert: What to expect in the week ahead

The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) is alerting motorists of road work scheduled for this week that may impact travel on various roadways in Central New York:

SHORT-TERM PROJECTS: ONONDAGA COUNTY

Roadside Cleaning
Monday, June 27, 8 am to 3 pm
I-81 Northbound Mainline: Reduced to one lane, left lane closed, from the Lafayette Truck Inspection Station to Exit 15 (Lafayette, US Route 20).

Bridge Deck Repair
Monday, June 27 through Wednesday, June 29 9:00 am to 2:30 pm daily
Route 695 Northbound: Reduced to one lane, left and center lanes closed, approaching and crossing over the bridge over the CSX rail line. Access to I-690 eastbound and westbound will be maintained.

Roadside Cleaning
Tuesday, June 28, 8 am to 3 pm
I-81 Northbound Mainline: Reduced to one lane, left lane closed from Exit 15 (Lafayette- Route 20) to Exit 16 (Onondaga Nation Territory-Nedrow).

The short term "Pavement Rehabilitation" entries listed below are a posting of the tentative schedule as of 3 p.m. Friday, June 24, for the milling (pre-paving surface preparation) operations on the I-81 pavement rehabilitation project currently under way between Mattydale and Cicero in Onondaga County. Each location listed will require a minimum of one additional day of activity to facilitate the final surface coat application (paving) on the roadway. The actual date of which paving will occur at each of these locations will be dependent on the progress of this project.

I-81 Southbound Mainline: Reduced to one lane from Exit 30 (Cicero) to Exit 26 (mattydale).

LONG-TERM CONTINUOUS PROJECTS -- ONONDAGA COUNTY:

Bridge Repair
Continuous (24 hours a day/7 days a week) now through June 30.
N.Y. Route 695 Southbound Ramp: On-ramp from State Fair Blvd. in Lakeland to NY 695 Southbound is closed to all traffic.
Details for the signed Detour: Proceed Westbound on State Fair Blvd. for approximately 2.5 miles. Turn right onto I-690 Eastbound at ramp just before overpass, continue east to Exit 6 (Route 695 Southbound).

Bridge Repair
Continuous (24 hours a day/7 days a week) now through June 30.
I-690 Eastbound Mainline: Reduced to one lane, right lane closed from Exit 11 (West Street) to the ramp to I-81 south. Access to I-81 south will be maintained.

Ramp Paving
Continuous (24 hours a day/7 days a week) from June 17 to June 30.
I-690 Westbound Ramp: On-ramp from State Fair Blvd. in Lakeland to I-690 Westbound will be closed to all traffic from June 17 to June 30
Details for the signed Detour follow: Proceed Westbound on State Fair Blvd for approximately 2.5 miles. Turn left onto I-690 Westbound ramp just past the overpass.

Pavement Rehabilitation
Weekdays (Monday through Friday) 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. through June 30.
Route 298 Eastbound and Westbound: Single lane alternating direction of traffic controlled by flag persons only in the area where actual work is being performed during the day between East Taft Road and Route 298 in the Town of Cicero.

Details About Work Zone Temporary Speed Restriction: The speed limit will be reduced from the current 55 mph to 15 mph during the pavement material application process and to 30 mph for up to seven (7) days following the application, to allow for proper bonding of the treatment to the road surface. Pilot vehicles will be directing traffic during the times when the 15 mph speed limit is in effect. Motorists should expect significant delays. Electronic variable message signs and other construction signs are in place along Route 298 advising of these temporary speed limit reductions.

Intersection Curb and Pavement Rehabilitation
Weekdays (Monday through Friday) 9 am to 3 pm
Route 92 Eastbound and Westbound: Reduced to one lane in both directions of travel through the intersections of Route 257 and Stickley Drive in the Village of Manlius.

Pavement Repairs
Weekdays (Monday through Friday) 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through July 8.
Route 5 Eastbound and Westbound: Single lane alternating direction of traffic controlled by flag persons only in the area where actual work is being performed during the day between the Cayuga-Onondaga County line and Ike Dixon Road in the Town of Camillus.

LONG TERM PROJECTS: CAYUGA COUNTY

Culvert Replacement
Continuous (24 hours a day/7 days a week) now through Thursday, July 21.
Route 90 Northbound and Southbound: Single lane alternating direction traffic controlled by temporary 3 color traffic signal, south of Wells Street between the two Wells College Campus driveways in the Town of Ledyard.

LONG -TERM CONTINUOUS PROJECTS : OSWEGO COUNTY

Bridge Repair
Continuous (24 hours a day/7 days a week) now through approximately July 5, 2011.
I-81 Northbound Mainline: Left lane closed approaching and crossing under the Bartell Road Bridge at Exit 31 (Brewerton) and over the Barge Canal/Oneida Lake Outlet Bridge in Brewerton. Access to and from Exit 31 (Bartell Road-Brewerton) will be maintained.

Bridge Repair
Continuous (24 hours a day/7 days a week) now through approximately July 5, 2011.
I-81 Southbound: Reduced to one lane of travel, left and center lanes closed, approaching and crossing over the Barge Canal/ Oneida Lake Outlet Bridge in Brewerton.

The scheduled road, ramp and lane closures listed above are subject to change due to adverse weather conditions or unforeseen logistical complications. Other lane, ramp or road closures not yet scheduled may occur that do not appear on this report.
